🌿 Our Philosophy
Planted in reality. Built for the sky.
We're called Planted Sky because those two words describe how we think about building things for the internet.
Why "Planted Sky"
Sky is the technology. Cloud infrastructure, automation, AI, the tools that let a business operate beyond the limits of a single person's time and attention. It's the part of the work that scales. The part that runs while you sleep.
Planted is the human side. The relationships, the strategy, the understanding of what your business actually needs before anyone writes a line of code. It's the part that requires patience, context, and care. The part that can't be automated.
Every project we take on lives somewhere between those two words. The best work happens when both sides are present - when the technology serves a real human need, and when the human strategy is backed by systems that actually work.
There's another layer to "sky" that matters. The sky is the one thing every person on earth sees every day. You don't think about it. You don't notice it. It's just there - quietly holding everything together, shifting from blue to gold to dark without asking for your attention. That's what good branding does, and it's what good technology does too. The best systems don't announce themselves. They become the atmosphere your business operates in. Present everywhere, intrusive nowhere.
What this means in practice
Some of our work is deeply technical. We build automations, configure cloud systems, write code that handles complexity so you don't have to think about it. That's the sky work.
Some of our work is deeply human. We sit with you, figure out what's actually going wrong, design a strategy that fits your specific situation, and write copy that sounds like a real person talking. That's the planted work.
Most of our work is both. A website isn't just code - it's a communication tool. An automation isn't just efficiency - it's giving someone their time back. A brand isn't just a logo - it's the promise you're making to people who trust you with their money.
Things we believe
Technology should disappear
The best systems are the ones your team forgets are running. If you're fighting your tools, something went wrong.
Strategy without systems is just a document
A plan that lives in a PDF isn't a plan. We build the infrastructure that makes your strategy executable.
Small businesses deserve real solutions
Enterprise tools and thinking, adapted for teams that don't have a department for everything. You shouldn't need a six-figure budget to run a smart operation.
Honest work over impressive presentations
We'd rather show you a working prototype than a pitch deck. The work speaks, or it doesn't.
Digital gardening
We think of our work like gardening in the cloud. You don't plant a seed and expect a tree tomorrow. You prepare the soil, plant deliberately, water consistently, and prune when things get overgrown.
The same is true for digital projects. A website launch isn't the finish line - it's planting day. Growth comes from the ongoing work: testing, adjusting, adding what's needed, cutting what isn't.
We're gardeners who happen to work with servers instead of soil. The patience is the same. The care is the same. The dirt under the fingernails is just... more metaphorical.
We've taken this further and mapped all 12 permaculture design principles to how we build for the web. It's part philosophy, part practical framework, part honest reckoning with the irony of using data centers to talk about soil health. Read the full breakdown.
Want to grow something together?
We're always up for talking about what you're building. No pitch, no pressure - just a conversation about where you are and where you want to be.
